BPRO 24-HOUR PATIENT INFORMATION

DURING 24 HOURS:

The BPro watch is a medical device used to monitor your blood pressure over a 24 hour period. This is done by a sensor taking readings from the pulse at your wrist every 15 minutes.

It has been specially designed so that you can carry out your normal daily activities.

You would have been fitted with the BPro watch as prescribed by your doctor.

It is important to go about normal activities and minimise vigorous activities during the 24 hours.

ACTIVITIES TO AVOID DURING THE 24 HOUR MONITORING PERIOD

  • Avoid doing unnecessary strenuous activities e.g. exercising, digging garden, swimming
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Avoid sleeping with your hands under the pillow at night
  • Do not get the BPro watch wet or immerse it in water e.g. washing hands, showering, etc
  • Do not unnecessarily press any of the buttons on the BPro watch
  • Remain calm during the 24 hour period

CAN I REMOVE THE BPRO WATCH?
Do not remove the BPro watch during the 24 hours unless your wrist or hand experiences the following:

  • Becomes very uncomfortable or painful
  • Is swelling, discoloured, or you experience feelings of pins and needles

ATTENTION
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms please:

  • Remove the BPro watch immediately by undoing the velcro
  • Put the watch aside
  • Return the watch to your GP clinic the next working day and inform the nurse
  • A new appointment will be organised for a further doctor consultation

AFTER 24 HOURS
Your nurse would indicate when you can safely remove the BPro watch.
Confirm that the heart sign on the watch has disappeared – indicating that the 24 hour period has ended.

You can then take the watch off by undoing the velcro strap.
If you have a Square Lock plaster, please dispose of this in the bin.
The watch should be returned to your GP clinic as advised by the nurse on the following business day.
